Teaching is FUN to me. I taught high school sciences, including AP levels, for 20 years and then taught at NC State for 20 more years. Chemistry is my favorite subject to teach and tutor!! People say I can teach chemistry to anyone. I tutored a high school student in first year chemistry in 2014-15. We both enjoyed the time and he did well. Of course from all the years of teaching, I've tutored hours of my life. My teaching career provided me many awards which are wonderful to have received but the most important awards are the students' successes as a result of my role in their lives.

Hobbies
Traveling is undoubtedly my passion in life. I've spent appreciable time in over 50 countries. The first country I ever visited was the former USSR where I took 18 high school students to a summer science camp. Much of the travel is to do service work in the country. I lead teams to do all kinds of service from medical care to building community infrastructure to provide education, business, etc. I've traveled extensively in the USA now having covered 49 states, missing only North Dakota. In the summer of 2004, a friend and I traveled 23,500 miles leaving Raleigh, ending up at the Artic Circle, and then back to Raleigh. We saw so many national parks. We were gone 63 days and camped more than 50 of them! Photography is something I'm pretty good at having one contest. Sports are important to me. I'm a huge college basketball and football fan. I actually coached basketball back in the day in high school. I cook, I garden a lot, and in general, I just enjoy being active.
